Mac Mini Location

What soundbox?

You want to avoid placing the Mac mini on or near anything that generates heat.

(the air intake is a small gap around the edge of the bottom cover and the exhaust is on the back)

As mentioned standing the Mac mini on it's side or mounting it somewhere to save space is OK.

It should be. You can even run it sideways (there are stands available for that). Just be sure you don't stack anything on top of the Mac mini.

It seems fine. The product page has pictures of other things stacked on top of it, and there don't appear to be any outtakes that could mess with the Mac mini's cooling.

If the top of the QM2 is warm to the touch, then I would look for a different location for the Mac mini.
