I think i have ascertained they are fake without visiting an Apple outlet but I did call them. Their view after the info I gave them was that the SN was spoofed.
There were several things which prove they are fakes.
- The case and buds should weight 5.8 gm they actually weight 45 gm which is not even Gen 1 as it should 45.6 gm so I have no idea what I actually have.
- The USB-C cable has a crimp or split in the middle.
- The receptacle holding the case is plastic.
- There are gaps in the packaging everywhere and the charging cable should be a perfect fit but it’s sort of oblong and not rounded in the receptacle
- The container holding the spare earpieces has gaps
- There is nothing to hold down the spare earpieces and when I first unpacked the box they fell out of the container. The container has nothing to hold them in place.
- Unable to update the firmware no matter what i do after following advice from Apple.
I think this is fairly sophisticated scam. They were sold as a gen 2 AirPod Pros but any devcev I pair with shows it to be A2084 1st gen.
The weird thing is that the SN’s on the box, buds and charging match. Checking the SN throws up a match with warranty valid for repair only till 09/23. The guy in the Apple shop said they would if they have been spoofed. Interestingly to day I saw a seller on EBay selling a pile of AirPod Pro 2 boxes manuals etc with SN’s on them. Here is the answer as to how the faking process commences.

louie
