apple ID login on mac mini "unknown error occurred"

I cannot log in with my apple id to my mac mini (additional standard user or admin) all existing and new apple ID accounts bring up the "unknown error occurred" Any ideas?

apple ids are working fine on other devices and existing users on the mac mini.
