Sign out on removed (and physically remote) device

My former employer has asked me to remove my AppleID from their laptop. I do not work there for several weeks already.

I have removed their laptop from appleid webpage. However, the device now is in Activation Lock state as I did not sign out from it.

What is the procedure now? Should I give them my AppleID credentials for them to sign out from the laptop? (I live too far away to travel there).

Hello Dmitry,

See the section "Turn off Activation Lock on a device" in Remove a device from Find Devices on iCloud.com - Apple Support

I tried copying and pasting it for you but it lost all the formatting and the forum software introduced all kinds of line numbering that was flat our wrong.
