Contact labels not saving

For the past several months, when I edit a contact on my iPhone 13 Pro, I change the label for a phone number to mobile, change the other phone number to work, etc. I save it and come back to it later, and it has defaulted back to the label phone.

Does anyone have a fix for this?

You can imagine the challenge when you tell Siri to text someone, she automatically chooses the number labeled mobile or iPhone, but when the label says “phone“, she asks you which number do you want to use?

Very problematic if you’re driving because you have to look at the phone and choose the number.

Thank you.

I resolved this problem by going into my iPhone's iCloud settings to turn off Contacts syncing with iCloud, then I signed out of my iPhone. I logged into iCloud on my laptop and deleted all of my Contacts there. It appears to take some time to fully clear out the contact data from iCloud. I don't know how much, but I waited overnight. The next day I corrected all of the contacts on my iPhone, signed back into my iPhone with my Apple ID, then turned on Contacts syncing in iCloud settings. All of my iPhone contacts uploaded and synced correctly with iCloud, and I haven't had a problem since.
