Is the cell format "Custom" available in Numbers for iPad?

iPadOS 16.3.  iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (2nd generation).

Numbers for iPad 12.2.1 (7364.0.3)

I am studying the Apple-supplied "Calendar" spreadsheet template, to see how it works.  I discovered that the "day of month" cells in the calendars use the cell format "Custom" with a subtext of "Day Only".  However, the Custom format does not open when I tap on it and I am unable to examine other options that might be available for the Custom format.

Also, I do not find the Custom format to even be available in my other iPad spreadsheets.  And I cannot find a reference to it in the "Numbers User Guide for iPad" in the Books app or on the "Numbers User Guide for iPad" website.

What is the "Custom" format and how do I use it in Numbers for iPad?

Thank you.  Jacques

Hello jck0109,

You can follow the steps below to add the date and time in a Numbers spreadsheet on iPad:

Numbers automatically interprets text strings that you type in a recognized date format as dates (for example, 6/10/17).
1. Select the cells or table you want to format, tap the Format button, then tap Format.
2. Tap the Info button to the right of Date & Time.
3. Tap the options that match the display formats you want for date and time.

If you tap None, no date or time is displayed in the cell, even if a date or time was entered and used in calculations.

If you don’t enter both a date and a time, Numbers adds a default value for you. For example, if you type “1:15 PM,” Numbers adds today’s date by default.

Take care.

Sparks0829, thank you for your reply about the "Date & Time" cell format. However, right now, I am interested in the "Custom" cell format. The "Custom" format is clearly present in the "Calendar" template but it appears to be unmodifiable. And the "Custom" format appears to be completely unavailable in other spreadsheets. Why can’t I modify the "Custom" format in the "Calendar" template or even see it in other spreadsheets? Thank you for your help. Jacques

Hello, Chris_C1,

Thank you for that information. When I started to use Numbers, I thought I might eventually run into a situation where the Mac has a feature that the iPad doesn't. From this example I might guess that whatever iWork applications are developed on the Mac at least will run on the iPad.

Thank you again. Jacques
