playlist not synced with iphone

I have a newly purchased album from iTunes which synced fine between my iMac, iPadPro and iPhone13Pro. However, when I put some tracks from it into a playlist on my iMac it synced fine with the iPad but is completely missing on the iPhone, though the rest of the playlist synced fine. I have shutdown both the iMac and iPhone to no avail. There have been no software updates since purchasing this album. All other playlist and album synchronisation still works fine - it's just this one specific album's contents that won't sync to a playlist. As a further test I created a specific playlist for just this album and tried to sync it to the iPhone but no tracks from it appear on the iPhone. The album is 'Some Devil' by Dave Matthews.

Any ideas as to what's going on will be gratefully received. Thanks.

Thanks Jeff, the problem is now fixed. I followed your suggestion and deleted and reloaded the album to Apple Music on my Mac and synced it to the iPhone. It didn't resolve the issue, but then I noticed that the album didn't appear in my downloaded albums on the iPhone, so I manually downloaded it to the phone and now the tracks appear in the playlist. Problem resolved. I suspect that although the album showed up on my phone before and would play fine, it had not been downloaded before. That'll teach me to a look more closely in the future. Thanks for your help.

Hi roharr1,

Let's try deleting the album in question not just from the library, but from the computer as well:

Delete music in the Apple Music app - Apple Support

You can then redownload the album and attempt to sync again.

Redownload music - Apple Support

This will help us to determine if the issue is due to corrupted files.

If this does not resolve the issue, we would advise to contact Apple Support directly. They will be best equipped to investigate this further for you:

Hey roharr1,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

Since the songs included in the playlists sync with the iPad, the issue may be related to iPhone software.

If you haven't already, restart the iPhone. It refreshes the software, which has resolved some software related issues. Below are steps to restarting your iPhone. For future reference, you may also access the steps in this article: Restart your iPhone.

1. Press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears.
2. Drag the slider, then wait 30 seconds for your device to turn off. If your device is frozen or unresponsive, force restart your device.
3. To turn your device back on, press and hold the side button (on the right side of your iPhone) until you see the Apple logo.

If restarting doesn't resolve the issue, make sure the iPhone software is up-to-date. Updates may include new features, security updates, and fixes. For steps on backing up your iPhone and updating to the latest version, check out this article: Update iOS on iPhone.

Below are the steps to update manually using Wi-Fi. The steps for updating using a computer is in the article below under the section labeled "Updating using your computer".

At any time, you can check for and install software updates.
Go to Settings  > General > Software Update.

The screen shows the currently installed version of iOS and whether an update is available.

To turn off automatic updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Automatic Updates.

After updating, sync the playlist to confirm issue is resolved.

Take care.

Thanks for this, but no joy I am afraid.

The iPhone s/w is the latest IOS 16.3.1 and hasn't changed since this issue started.

I have also powered off the iPhone and restarted it again, but still these tracks won't sync from the iMac.

The album and playlist syncs from the Mac to my iPad fine, but though the album has synced to the iPhone fine, tracks from it will not sync to the copy of the playlist. It's a really weird and specific event confined to just the iPhone and this one album. All other album and playlist synchronisation to both this and other playlists works fine to this iPhone. This makes me think the issue is with the album tracks of this one purchased album and not the iPhone. Thanks.
