ALL FILES IN FINDER WIPED

So my system hanged. I am using MacBook Air. When I restarted, it pops up to sign in my icloud again which hasn't happened before. All my files are deleted, my applications are still installed but my files in the finder are wiped. How can I retrieve or restore them. Please it is urgent.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.6

You probably have set your account to use "Documents and Desktop in iCloud", and I guess that is where your files are.

Log in to your iCloud account if you haven't already.

Open a Finder window (Command-N), then click on iCloud Drive on the Sidebar. Do you see folders called "Documents" and "Desktop" there? Do they have the file you were looking for?
