iPhone 14 Pro Max calling itself when connected to car bluetooth

Does anyone have a resolution for iPhone calling itself every time I get in my car and phone connects with vehicle via Bluetooth? It is very annoying, interferes with listening to the radio, you can't shut it off, it doesn't register on the phone that a call has been made. It's happening in both my Porsche and my Mercedes so it's obviously a phone problem and not a car issue. I just got the 14 Pro Max a month ago and that's when it started happening. It's honestly infuriating. It renders using the phone in the car with bluetooth obsolete.

I had the similar problem with Apple Maps calling me from my number to say prompts. Found the solution for my case. All you need to do is on your iPhone go to Settings - Bluetooth - tap on "i" for the device associated with the car - tap on Device Type and select anything but Car Stereo. Let me know guys if it helped anyone.

Does your car have an audio to text button, or are you just trying to tell Siri to text someone. My 2023 Camry would call itself and I found out it was cause I was pressing and holding the power button on my phone in my pocket. It’s possible it may not let you if your car doesn’t actually have the feature. Hopefully a solution is found, I know how irritating it can be.

I actually found out why it does this and it’ll blow your mind. I was driving my Camry and noticed it kept dialing my phone over and over. Eventually I took my phone out to just disconnect my phone from the whole car. Turns out I was accidentally pressing the power button and volume button on my iPhone and it would lock. That’s what causes it to “dial” itself in the car. Then I’d need to enter my password to stop it.

I am a new iPhone user. Started with the 14 and just changed to the 15 Pro Max, all within about a weeks time. Just about every day I spend an inordinate amount of time trying to learn this phone and get it to do what I want it to do.

I use voice to text often. it always worked beautifully with my android. I am sitting in my car right now. Every time I use the microphone on my phone to do voice to do anything like create a text or a phrase to search or address to look up, the phone calls itself. My car display shows it’s on an active call. It takes a second or two for me to be able to start talking because it’s still connecting the call. If I don’t wait, the microphone won’t pick up the first few words I’m saying because it’s making that weird call. It shows my number as the number it is calling. When I am done using this microphone, and I click the little microphone button, the microphone stops, the call hangs up, the car makes a hangup noise, and then my radio or whatever else I was playing comes back.

As you can imagine it is extremely annoying. I have googled it over and over and cannot find a solution. I thought it was a problem with the 14, but it is doing the same thing with the 15. I use voice to text often and this really will not work well!

Appreciate the reply, but no, in my case it has nothing to do with holding anything on the phone. When I'm in my car, my phone sits in its holder that is attached to my dashboard. Any time I either simply push the little microphone icon on any screen on my phone where a keyboard appears (like texting, a search, navigation, whatever), AS WELL AS any time I simply say " hey Siri" and not even touch the phone, once the microphone or Siri is activated, the car calls my own number. The car display shows "active call" and continues to show the seconds counting of how long it's been on an active call. Any audio that had been playing stops just as it does when you're on a phone call. So I speak the words of what I want to say or what I'm asking Siri. Once I'm done speaking and/or I touch the microphone icon again to finish my voice-to-text task, then the call hangs up, the car makes the "hang up" sound, the car display stops showing active call, and the previous audio begins playing again.

Tonight I discovered only two instances where this would NOT happen, and that is by using voice-to-text on a Google feature, such as Google search, or within Google maps. I was shocked! But somehow those Google apps don't have the same glitch. I could actually just touch the microphone, the screen on the phone changes to something like a microphone (can't remember exactly) or "listening" or something... anyway I can actually speak out what I'm trying to say. And then when I'm done, the phone performs what I told it to do or write in the words I said. But anything else and the car calls itself.

I have spoken to multiple Apple professionals, even "senior advisers" and no one has any answer other than they've heard of it before. They think it's because my car does not have Apple's Car Play software. It's a 2017 Mazda, which apparently is a year or two behind when Mazda started equipping cars with Apple's software.

Long story I know, sorry... but it's just so frustrating, along with a handful of other functions that iPhone just flat out cannot do that the Android with ease. So many features that I thought were no brainers that the iPhone does not have. :(
