You should not need to. If both devices are logged in to the same Apple ID, the same iCloud storage is accessible on both.
On your MacBook go to System Preferences ➜ Apple ID, and make sure it's the same one that is logged in to the iPhone in Settings ➜ Account (top of settings).
If you are using different Apple IDs for each device, you can set up a Family Sharing Group from one Apple ID, and invite the other Apple ID to it to share the iCloud+ storage.
