The Apple TV App will not open on my Sony Bravia TV (Google TV). How can I access / open?

What happens when you try to open the Apple TV app? Do you get an error message? What does it say?
How far does it go? What is the last thing visible?
Please check for TV system software updates.
Try a cold restart of the TV (not standby-wake, but really off-on).
Try deleting and re-installing the Apple TV app.
I install the app and it asks me to login using my Apple ID. I then consistently get an error message asking me to try again later. I've uninstalled the app and get the same result.
