input menu not in M1 macbook menu bar running ventura 13.4.1

Input menu is not showing in the menu bar, I'm having a slight problem with my keyboard, it suddenly types " when I press @ and vice versa. I'm running a 2020 M1 Macbook Pro on Ventura 13.4.1. No other keys seem to be affected.

What is the "Input menu " on the menu bar?

That means you have the wrong input source active. Go to system settings > keyboard > text input > edit and see what is on your list of Input Sources. It sounds like you have British PC there instead of British. Remove British PC and any other language keyboard which you do not use for writing.

Issue now resolved as per Tom Gewecke's suggestion (below)

I'm glad you have your issue resolved but you had two different issues. One, the Input menu not appearing in the menu bar, and the one addressed by Tom. If you had more than just the British PC source enabled the Input menu should be visible. I was only addressing the former.

Thanks for your further reply dialabrain, and for pointing this out. In fact, I believe the issue of input menu not showing in the menu bar was due to a third party app that I had been using, "Bartender 4". I uninstalled Bartender and the input menu then appeared, which allowed me to understand and follow Tom's advice.

Unfortunately, I am typing this with the accessibility keyboard because theM1 keyboard and external keyboard had both stopped working in this thread; but still works correctly on a "Word.doc" page ?!?
