iPad charging power while in use

I have an iPad Pro. It’s probably a 2018 model and it is the large one. My question is; how much charging current (or power - either spec is useful) do I need to maintain the battery’s state of charge while using it at maximum screen brightness? I don’t necessarily need to charge the battery, but I do not want to deplete it either. Thanks!

Mac Pro, macOS 10.12

Apple doesn’t publish this information in its device specifications. As such, other than you running trials in your own environment, the simple answer is to keep your iPad connected to its Power Adapter.

With the iPad running a maximum brightness, the iPad’s thermal management will very likely reduce the battery charging rate anyway.

I would suggest that you will require a Power Adapter rated at least 12W to run the iPad - and potentially maintain the battery at its current state of charge. Simply connecting to its standard 20W USB-C Power Adapter will do no harm - and provide adequate power.

Okay, so it sounds like I need a maximum of 4A @ 5V. The issue is, the iPad needs to be connected to a USB to MIDI interface while in use. But I have a source of 24VDC on a nearby power supply. I can design a switching power supply to take the 24V down to 5V, and build that into the MIDI interface box, sending the new 5V down the USB cable to the iPad. Thank you, LP!
