colours in FCP seriously wrong

In the screenshot below left is "as it should be" (finder preview), right is as it appears after import in FCP. FCP used to work just fine. This is FCP 10.4.6 in High Sierra. Other versions of FCP in El Capitan and Snow Leopard on the same computer (imac 2011) work fine.

Something in the "playback machine" of FCP is amiss. If I export the video and view it with quick time or finder preview, everythings fine.

So the way FCP displays the video is wrong. What do I do?

iMac is the correct setting. Try trashing the FCP preferences and rebooting.
