HomeKit-compatable routers: "HomeKit does not support mesh points" on Amplifi Alien

There are currently only 2 HomeKit-compatable routers listed by Apple as of Dec 6, 2023: (Home app - Accessories - Apple)

  • AmpliFi Alien
  • Linksys Velop AX4200 Mesh WiFi 6 System, Tri-Band

As per the documentation from Amplifi, the Alien only supports HomeKit-integration when setup as a stand-alone device.

If you try and enable HomeKit-integration on an otherwise working Alien setup that includes mesh points, the following message is displayed: "HomeKit does not support mesh points"

Homekit Hub (Apple TV 4K) - TVOS 17.1

Alien router: FW version: 4.0.5

What is the limitation that prevents HomeKit-integration with Amplify Alien when it is setup with Mesh points?

Why is HomeKit-integration on the Alien router supported when setup as a stand-alone router?

Does the Linksys Velop AX4200 support HomeKit-integration when setup as a mesh system?

Is mesh support even possible with HomeKit-integration?
