Error message: Could not mount “Crucial X8”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49244.)
Has been flakey for the last few months - Despite formatting and using initially on Mac Pro still works flawlessly on PC but now refuses to mount on Mac. Change occurred after upgrading to Sonoma
Have tried all the usual fixes including rebooting, changing ports and cables including buying the latest standard cable.
MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 14.2

launch Disk Utility.
select the main Volume on the drive.
inspect its format, shown directly below the volume-name.
example: this is an Apple File system drive:
other common choices include MacOS extended, exFAT, and Windows New Technology File System (NTFS)..
while you are up, run "RepairDisk[Diectory]/FirstAid"
report what you find out.

Volume is already unmounted.
Performing fsck_exfat -y -x /dev/rdisk4s2
Checking volume.
Checking main boot region.
Checking system files.
Volume name is Crucial X8.
Checking upper case translation table.
Checking file system hierarchy.
Cluster chain for /Backups/Docs/Projects has too few clusters for its size.
Directory /Backups/Docs/Projects has zero length.
File system check exit code is 1.
Restoring the original state found as unmounted.
File system verify or repair failed. : (-69845)

Very frustrating as the drive has been accessed only a handful of times and only to backup data.
You should hav mentioned that up front.
As far as Disk Utility is concerned that drive, as it exists now, is Much too damaged to Mmount, and too damaged to Repair.
If you like, Disk Utility could ERASE it for you.
Perhaps one of your other Operating Systems could repair its directory for you. Apple disk Utility repair is VERY cautious -- it does not want to participate in any bad directories.
Quick update - I tried one more time before reformatting and it mounts perfectly. Have now accessed a few times without issue.
Go figure - perhaps an OS update has fixed it.
