Apple Card swipe doesn’t work in meters and other machines

My original Apple Card (from release day) expired so I received a replacement a few months ago. Ever since then, the titanium card doesn’t work in machines where you swipe it (such as parking meters and hotel check in kiosks). I get an error message saying something like “Use another card.”

Basic question so sorry. Have you activated your new card?

Does the swipe work in transaction terminals when you swipe? It may be that the card is defective. MasterCard is preparing to do away with the magnetic strip in 2026 so it’s possible they have made changes that won’t be accepted in older machines.

You can request a new card from Goldman Sachs by following the steps in the support article I linked below.

No, it doesn't seem like swipe works at all. When merchants swipe, it tells them to insert the chip. But for older machines like parking meters, which do not have a chip function, you simply can't use Apple Card.

I've called support multiple times and they just keep repeating the same thing: "I don't see any declined transactions. You should replace your card." I have replaced my card twice now and no change. I can't tell if this is their script and they are gaslighting me into believing there is no issue; or if they truly don't understand the issue.

Do you declines in your Apple Card in your Apple Wallet app? When Goldman Sachs has declined my card, the decline shows in my Wallet. If GS doesn’t see the decline, either the merchant, merchants credit card processor or the PNO (Payment Network Operator) is stopping the transaction before GS sees it. Metal cards sometimes have issues when swiped because they are a mm or 2 thicker than standard plastic cards. Does the meter accept a plastic card?

Park Mobile works and has been my preferred app for probably 7 or 8 years. Why would a want on 1% cash back when the App uses Apple Pay, I’ll get 2% back, they give out rewards periodically for being a customer.

What am I missing in the desire/insistence to use the physical card no matter any solution offered?

That's a good idea. I have this app but I don't know if all meters around here can be paid for using the app. I'll try next time I'm at a meter.

I think my concern is that the card is not functioning properly and Apple/GS are either unaware or refuse to acknowledge it. Like I mentioned initially, this also happened at a hotel check in kiosk where I had no alternative than using the physical card.
