Screen time bug after updating to iOS 18.

As soon as I updated to iOS 18, my screen time notifications and limits started going crazy. When I checked in to the settings, it showed that my screen time was 13 hours (this would not have been possible as I was not on my phone for more than 1 hour that day). I scrolled back a few days and my screen time had also skyrocketed - anywhere from 10 hours a day to 21 hours a day. My screen time is usually no more than 3 1/2 hours a day, so this is weird.

This morning, I checked my screen time and it said I had 7 hours of screen time, even though my phone was powered off through the whole night.

(EDIT: I just want to add the things I’ve already tried to do)

  • Turn off and on the screen time settings
  • Power phone off and on
  • Force reset phone

How do I fix this?

Which apps do you guys see that caused the activity? I see settings, calculator and firefox.

In addition I do not only see screentime but activations too. All while my Iphone is turned off.

Would you think it could mean we somehow see the result of a malware exploiting some security whole? Maybe it was uncovered by incident owing to the upgrade to IOS 18?

I know right? I’ve taken to having to leave my iPhone on overnight, but I turned on airplane mode so the battery level doesn’t drop as much. I don’t want to have to turn my phone off unless the battery has dropped like one percent and I’m not planning to charge it until the next morning (Definitely not charging overnight.) when I did turn my phone off it said I had used settings for like 10 hours.

I sure hope that they get this bug fixed soon because I need to shut my phone off at certain times (like when I go to church.)

This seemed to be happening to me as well. I believe in my case, the numbers were becoming inflated because of the StandBy feature. When I charge my phone overnight, I stand it on its side to allow it to go into StandBy mode which displays a clock and other widgets like an alarm clock. It seems like screen time is counting this towards my daily screen time. You can see in my chart where between the hours of 12-6am, it seems like the phone was in use the entire time according to the grey bar which corresponds to “other” apps.
