Can I restore the old Photo app in iOS17?

Does anyone know how to restore the old Photo app of iOS17 or maybe the whole iOS17?

The new iOS18 is headache. It’s taking extra space. It’s a bit slower and draining battery faster. However, those are all manageable. The worst is the new Photo app. It’s a nightmare. When a company can’t create a new good innovation, they start to kill their good ones.

Ii totally agree. It is so bad I try not to use it anymore. If I take a pic I have trouble cropping them now. Photos appear in random order and I was spending an age trying to find pics I’d had sorted into names categories and folders.

Can you change the new update on photos back to the old system. The new one is hard to navigate, I cant find the categories used on the last version. It is not user friendly. Can you reverse this back to the orginal software on photos.
No, but you can learn how to use it, as I did, and now I think it’s a big improvement over the old version.

I'm with you, my friend. It's a big change, but to me one which is really a HUGE leap forward.

It is highly recommended that if you have an iOS 17 backup, that you restore your iPhone using that. To get the old photos app back, you have to completely downgrade iOS, as the app is integrated into the iOS. Apple doesn't provide the IPSW files for iOS 17 anymore, meaning there isn't another safe way of downgrading. A lot of times if you search up how to downgrade iOS, it will ask you to install software that will jailbreak your iPhone. Jailbreaking is an extremely dangerous procedure. If something goes wrong, you could render your phone unusable. And since Apple considers jailbreaking a violation of their terms of service, they can deny you repair service, even if you have a warranty. Even if nothing goes wrong during jailbreaking, you run a greater risk of getting malware. To me, the cons outweigh the pros and I would learn the new interface rather than getting my photos stolen by malware.

Correction to my previous post: You can't downgrade through a restore. Once you've updated, there is no going back a safe way. Really the only way to downgrade is to jailbreak the device, which is extremely dangerous and I would strongly advise against it. You run the risk of rendering your device unusable and making it more susceptible to malware. If you end up ruining your device, Apple reserves the right to refuse repair service, as they consider it a violation of their ToS. In short, if you want to continue using the photos app, you will just have to get used to the new interface.
