For VO2 max to show it seems that i need to bring my phone along without the phone it doesnt seem to record v02 max using watch series 6 and 8. Should it behave this way ?

To get an estimated VO2 Max, you will have to start a Hiking-, Walking-, or Running Outdoor workout on your watch.
After you finished the workout, the watch will sync the numbers to the Health App on your iPhone, where you can check the results after that.

Where did you check the VO2 during the workout on your watch?
I have checked my workout metrics and could not find a setting that shows VO2 during an exercise.
I can get my VO2 max but the problem is i need to bring my phone along with me to have the reading. If i did not bring my phone along just doing a jog for 30 minutes it doesnt show VO2 max reading. It all started from after 19 may 2024.

Yes. Using apple workout.
The VO2 max is show on apple health / browse / heart.
