ApplePay declining across different banks

I have an iPhone 14 I’m in Australia. For the last month or so ApplePay is declined for all transactions across multiple cards from different banks. If I use the physical cards the transactions are successful.

I have removed the cards and re-added, signed out of my iCloud account and repeated the removal and re-adding of cards and that hasn’t resolved the issue. I’ve hard reset the phone between these steps too. I’ve also checked my address details and all is fine with those.

I haven’t contacted those banks yet because as they are different institutions this would seem to be an Apple issue.

This is very frustrating. Looking forward to getting some help!

I was having the same issue & come to find out, I had 1 card that was no longer eligible for Apple Pay & a store that I go to all the time does not accept Apple Pay anymore. During my situation, I learned that Apple doesn’t approve or decline purchases with Apple Pay. Only the issuing bank of the payment method (credit or debit card) has the information to approve or decline transactions & the reason for decline.

If it was an actual decline, it was made by the bank and you will have to ask the bank the reason for the decline.

Apple Pay does not accept or deny any charges. It is the bank of the card that you use that would deny a charge. For some reason you are having multiple banks that are declining the charge. You will need to contact them to find the answer. It could be that the information on your phone has changed and the banks will no longer approve any charges, but the fact remains that the bank has refused the charge and to find out why, you will have to contact them. You can try removing the card and adding it again, but it would be likely that that bank will not allow you to add the card again if the information does not match.

Since iOS 18.1 is beta, there is no support and you are advised to downgrade to the latest shipping release and test again. Have you done that? Many of the previous betas had reports of Apple Pay not working, but discussions of beta software is not available here and violates the terms of use.

Please confirm if you meant iOS 18.0.1 or you are actually using beta 18.1.
