Apple watch 8 not charging showing red cable icon once

I've tried the hold the two buttons as is the usual fix. I normally charge my watch all night. First I thought it was an incompatibility with EU connections though they worked fine before. Why is it that no one covers this issue in full such that a picture of the low charging status is shown and what it means and how to fix it. It has been on charge for days. No one has given an adequate answer throughout all of the discussions. Do people just throw their watch away and buy a new one?
