iCloud for Windows: Backup lost my files

I recently installed iCloud for Windows, and proceeded to sync. The sync process was taking a long time, and seemed to be getting stuck at points. After a long time, I saw that my documents folder was missing a bunch of files on both local and cloud. I tried restarting the service to see if that fixed it, but apparently I LOST MY FILES.

There's nothing in iCloud's trash can, so I want to know if there is a way to recover the lost files.
