iOS 18 Siri + Car Bluetooth Issues

Anyone else having issues with the latest Siri when connected to car bluetooth? After updating to 18.1, Siri will not shuffle Spotify for me, along with many other requests when connected to car bluetooth (Honda CRV for what its worth). Siri DOES work when not connected to bluetooth.

I have asked it to shuffle a specific playlist and it now either says it doesn’t know how to do that or I need to “unlock your iPhone first”, which doesn’t work.

I have also asked it to “like” a song on Spotify by saying “I like this song”. This does not work either.

Both of these used to work on previous updates and I used them religiously. Am I doing something wrong now? Is there a setting I need to change? Or has Siri actually gotten dumber? 🤷‍♂️

This morning I tried:

Me: Play the song Let It Be by The Beatles on Spotify

Siri: You don’t have an app for that

Me: Play the song Let It Be by The Beatles

Siri: Ok, here’s Let It Be by the Beatles (Plays the ALBUM on Spotify)

Me: Play the song Let It Be, not the album, by The Beatles.

Siri: Ok, I’ll tell Spotify you don’t like that album

Me: I DO like the album

Siri: I don’t know how to do that

What am I doing wrong??? Why does Siri seem worse? all of this functionality used to work before the latest Siri update.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks!

Thank you, Jeff. Yes, I was aware - I did contact Apple support previously with no real solution. I was just throwing out some examples to see if anyone here was experiencing the same thing and had any solutions.

GOOD NEWS is… I updated to 18.1.1 and my issues appear to be resolved. Siri recognized all of the commands I posted previously - no issues shuffling Spotify, no issues recognizing my asks, no issues texting. For anyone else having this issue, try the latest update - see if it helps!

Instead of Spotify, I tried messaging my wife.

Me: Text [insert wife’s name]

Siri: …….. (nothing, then closes out)

Like the above, this used to work before updating.

I eventually got this one to work with the exact phrasing of “send a message to [wife]”, but this REALLY should be able to recognize most forms of the same question.

Later, I tried:

Me: Shuffle Imagine Dragons on Spotify

Siri: Looks like you don’t have an app for that, please download when you get to the car.

Me: Play Imagine Dragons

Siri: [proceeds to give me the history of the band Imagine Dragons] or I have also gotten the history of dragons….anything except for the music itself.

This is super frustrating. All I want to do is listen to music over the car speakers and Siri can barely do that right now.

Next up on the terrible list of Siri responses:

Today on my drive:

Me: Shuffle my Liked Songs

Siri: Playing Moana, by Lin Manuel Miranda.

Me: Shuffle my Liked Songs

Siri: (waits 5sec, does nothing, says nothing)

Me: Shuffle my Liked Songs on Spotify

Siri: You’ll need to unlock your iPhone first

Me: (Unlocks phone) Shuffle my Liked Songs on Spotify

Siri: (waits 10sec) It doesn’t look like Spotify is responding, please try again in a few minutes.

Me: Shuffle my Liked Songs

Siri: Playing your Liked Songs on Spotify

Me: Play these songs randomly

Siri: What do you want to know about Emily M——? (one of my contacts)

Me: Stop.

Me: Can you play songs on shuffle?

Siri: Shuffling your Liked Songs on Spotify

What the heck??
