Why is Siri and Apple Intelligence responding through my HomePod instead of my Mac?

I tried enabling Apple Intelligence and Siri on my MacBook Pro. Whenever I ask it a question, the response comes out of my HomePod speaker in the bedroom, even though I have the laptop's speakers selected as the output. Is this a bug because Apple Intelligence is still in beta, or do I have a setting incorrect?

Check System Settings->Apple Intelligence & Siri-> Listen For. The default is OFF so the only way to use Siri is to click on the Siri icon. Change the Listen For setting to “Siri” or “Hey Siri” and test.
