I’ve had my apple watch for more than 6 months now and ever since I got it (Apple watch series 9 41mm) it makes a ticking noise while on charge. The watch sounds exactly like a mechanical watch ticking every second and it only happens when it’s on charge. The charger is original and it came with the watch and the watch has never been dropped or damaged in any way.

You should not use uncertified accessory to charge your watch, even if it comes as a wall outlet that includes an USB-C port.
The Apple Watch 9 and newer models support fast charging, which only works if you are using certified equipment, like the 20W adapter from Apple.
Otherwise you may damage your hardware or see unexpected behaviour.
Are you using the 20W Apple adapter to connect your watch to the charger?
No, the charger is connected directly to my wall plug which has a usb-c port. However I don’t think the charger is the issue here
