Do I have a virus or malware and how to remove?

I opened what I now believe is a fake Netflix survey email and clicked and completed the five step survey on a website. It asked for no personal information. I'm worried I now have something on my Mac and can't find any information about how to identify and delete any viruses or malware that is explained in simple terms for the average person. I see info on the apple site about how to protect from malware but not about how to identify/remove. Can anyone guide me please?

Nothing is installed on your Mac unless you were required to enter the computer password to install the program. If you did not do this and also did not provide them with any personal information, then you have nothing to worry about. It is not recommended to ever install any AntiVirus software as you can only expect problems with your computer after you install them and any price/subscription for their service is a waste of money.

If you did enter your computer password to install some software and now want to know how to remove it, then you can post the free EtreCheck report using the additional text option when posting and we can provide some assistance. The report contains no personal information. You can expect to enter your computer password here to install it because you are directing this action. That is how to prevent inadvertently installing Malware.

I don't believe MalwareBytes is still a free option. It used to be a great tool and it shows the Free Download link on their website, but I believe they now require a subscription. I hope someone can prove me wrong on this one, as it was something I recommended many times in the past.

There are no viruses for Mac OS however you may have installed some malware. To determine if you installed any malware, please navigate to malwarebytes.com , download the free version and run malwarebytes. If you installed anything this app will find it and get it off your system.

The best way to keep Mac OS secure and fast is simply to keep it up-to-date and restart the computer about 1x per week. The next thing to do is to use common sense, meaning don't reply or review emails, text messages, web sites that you don't know or trust. If it looks suspicious then it is! Apple will never reach out to you so if you get a phone call or e-mail other form of communication saying they are from Apple or represent Apple it's likely a scam.
