HP LaserJet Pro 200 not working anymore with Apple Devices after Update (guessing AirPrint issue)

I am having massiv issues with the lastest OSes from Apple. I have updated all devices of the family (4x Macs 4 iPads, 4 iPhones) to the latest macOS 15.1.1, iOS/iPad OS 18.1.1, since then it is impossible to print from any of those devices to my HP LaserJet Pro Color m251n. I looks at first like it is going to work but it crashes the printer (restart needed).

I have one MacBook Pro that is still at 14.1.1 and this and a windows PC are the only device where it still works. It is not related to the network nor the infrastructure but has to do with changes made in the latest OSes. Is anyone having this too? It is extremely frustrating and I wish I had not updated just because of this.

Hello PRP_53,

Not sure that I can contribute with anything useful in this case, but here are at least a few comments.

The HP LaserJet Pro Color m251n is listed as a supported model in About AirPrint - Apple Support (en-us edition November 19, 2024), so it should just work...

I assume that the printer is connected by Ethernet to one of the LAN ports of a Wi-Fi router, the same router providing the network for all computers and devices.

It may be a good idea to check whether HP has issued a recent firmware update for this printer.

https://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02846659.pdf (p 77).

Also, after checking all settings/connections, the OP may want to try a full power-cycle sequence (not forgetting the Wi-Fi router):

  • Power off the Wi-Fi router, the printer, the Macs, any iPhones and iPads, and all other devices/computers.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the router.
  • Wait two to three minutes.
  • Power on the printer.
  • Wait a minute or two.
  • Power on the Macs, any iPhones/iPads, and all other devices/computers.

Kind regards,

Jan

Find an AirPrint printer’s information

Not using this specific Printer but have an Epson ET 2750 from 2017

That same Printer is Certified AirPrint capable

Various versions of macOS going back to macOS 10.15 Catalina through to and including macOS 15.1.1

They have been using and still are being used to AirPrint without any issues

So the assertion that MacOS Sequoia is the root cause of this issue, seems unsupported

As you can see, the printer is visible, perfectly detected on macOS 15 and 14 the same way. On 14 Air print works like it used to work on iOS 17, iPadOS 17 ... but after updates the only device that can still use AirPrint is the one with macOS 14.

In addition I configured the Printer as PostScript on macOS 15 => it works as expected. My conlusion is that it must have something to do with an AirPrint change in the latest OS versions
