Notification delays on iOS 18

Temporary fix for to those who are experiencing delayed to no push notifications when iPhone is idle for hours.

I dunno if this will work for everyone but imma share it still.

First I have an iPhone 11 (iOS 18.1.1) and using an eSIM.

I discovered and also tested this out (for 7 hours now) that when I toggle on airplane mode and my network goes into VoWiFi mode all notifications from third-party apps start getting push notifications on time, even though the device is idle for a while, and even those calls from FB Messenger, Signal, or WhatsApp starts getting through immediately.

So far I'm not sure if this is a temporary fix for all but it works for me, everything is back to normal, and every push notification arrives on time. I dunno if this is because I have an eSIM (switched to eSIM before iOS18) or something with VoWiFi being on due to weak network coverage or what (there's a cell tower like 150 meters away from my house so weak signal is impossible so airplane mode is the option).

So on my end, if I'm at home or connected to WiFi I will turn on airplane mode and only turn it off when I leave the house. It's absurd fix but hey desperate times calls of desperate measure.

If it works for ya please leave a comment of what your iPhone model is, if you are using an eSIM or Physical SIM, iOS version, and if device or region supports it if you have Apple Intelligence turned on or off.

When Airplane Mode is activated, any previous action of manually enabling the WiFi will consistently be replicated each time Airplane Mode is switched on. This means that if you've turned on the WiFi after activating Airplane Mode, that specific action will be repeated automatically whenever you toggle Airplane Mode on again. Essentially, the system remembers and reinstates the state of the WiFi that was set before entering Airplane Mode, ensuring that the WiFi behavior remains consistent whenever you use Airplane Mode.

This is true for Bluetooth too.

Well the thing is it works, I dunno why or how but it works. iOS 18 introduced a notification bug that got worse on iOS 18.1, so far this is the only temporary fix I could find. I reached out to Apple Support two and half weeks ago and up to this moment all they ask me to do is send logs and do some troubleshooting. The Specialist I’m in contact with said the software engineers still don’t know what is causing this, so no fix for now. I also found out from Reddit and here at least 150-200 people are reporting this issue either started on iOS 18.0.1 or 18.1, most affected devices are iOS 18 supported devices but don’t support Apple Intelligence.
