13G storage needed for iPhone software update

My phone is 32G. Apple wants 1/3 of this in order for me to update my software. Of course because my software is not ip to date, the phone now no longer works as expected. When I messaged Apple asking why the update needs so much of my phones resources, I was given info on how to upgrade my phone. Including financing options.

this is highly reminiscent of that class action Apple lost, the one when they were caught slowing down older phones in order to push people to upgrade. This is like that, only they want us to either upgrade our phones or iCloud, maybe both…

I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

What's the difference between device storage and iCloud storage? - Apple Support

Really, if it were I … investing in an iPhone with more device storage seems logical. The smallest amount of storage I would even consider for my usage would be be 256gb.

How to check the storage on your iPhone and iPad - Apple Support

What is the current iOS you are using? Your original question was confusing…you said your iPhone had 32gb of storage and I assumed it was an older iPhone. Your 2TB of storage is full?? Wow…

That would work, and I might even accept that as an answer to my original question. However, when I asked Apple why the upgrade was so large, I was given only info on how to upgrade.

in addition, I already pay every month for an iCloud expansion. Apparently my 2TBs is nearly completely full because every photo I’ve ever taken with this phone, even ones I deleted from my phone, still exists… in the cloud. On the Internet.
