Low charge notification for unknown AirPods

I routinely have a notification that drops down, from the top of my iPad screen, to tell me a set of AirPods has low charge level. I do not believe they are mine, because I’ve both named mine differently and confirmed the charge level was nearly full.

I checked my Bluetooth settings and do not have a generic set of AirPods, even as an unconnected option.

It has also happened in more than one location, suggesting it’s not really picking up these mystery AirPods.

What might cause this?

This continues!

I’ve updated the IOS and restarted the iPad. The notification drops down, from the top of the screen, to give random low battery warnings. They go up and down, between 0% and about 18%. Not round 10% levels, etc. I’ve immediately checked my Bluetooth settings and they are not listed as either connected or unconnected. My actual AirPods are titled with my name and this warning is titled generically. Further, I’ve then connected my real AirPods, which showed the different name and are nearly full battery.

This feels like a virus. Is that possible on an iPad? Is there anti virus software recommended?
