Can my old 2006 iPod 30GB work with iTunes in 2024?

I have dug out my old 2006 30GB iPod from storage, charged it up, and it seems to still work fine and is holding its charge and retains its old music collection. However, plugging it into my new PC (with the latest iTunes installed) it goes into 'do not disconnect' update mode permanently. While file manager recognises it as a drive, iTunes doesn't. I don't need the storage space and would rather it was working to spec (and besides, I don't like the music any more). Is it now effectively e-waste? Thanks.

I recently had the same problem with 2 iPod classisc which I hadn't plugged in for many years. This was on a Mac, so might not be relevant to you.

How "permanent" is the "do not disconnect" mode? I ended up leaving one of them overnight and it eventually connected. Try doing a device reset too - I don't know how to do it on your model, GIYF.

The other one was more of a pain. Some of the things that helped on the Mac were to delete the AmpDevicesAgent plist. I realize that this isn't relevant to your case cos you're on Windows, but there might be an equivalent thing running in the background.

The notes I made at the time said that patience was the main requirement and I eventually got them both working.

If you can't get it going then it might not be waste; I sold both my Classics for a fair amount of beer money, and even non-working ones were in demand so check ebay to see what they sell for as spares and repairs.
