New mouse 2024 incompatibility with Mac OS Big Sur on iMac

Hi I recent purchased a new mouse at the a

Apple store and was assured it would work with my old iMac running Mac OS Big Sur 11.7.10. It connected ok but I can't scroll with it or grab and drag. Anybody have experience with this issue? thanks for help!

Well, the Apple associate that told you it was compatible, needs some additional training.

The new 2024 USB-C Magic Mouse, requires macOS Sequoia 15.1 or newer to work properly. As such, I suggest that you return it for a full refund before the 14-day (after purchase) period ends.

I just checked the online Apple Store and noted that Apple no longer sells the earlier Magic Mouse models. They do; however, sell one by Corsair. However, if you have an Apple Store nearby, I suggest that you call them before going there to see if they have any of the older models still available for sale.

If you are not wedded to having an Apple mouse, I suggest you consider getting one from Logitech. FWIW, I have been using them for years with all of my Macs and have not regretted it. However, only you can determine which mice work best for you.

I currently have this one: https://www.logitech.com/en-us/products/mice/mx-master-3s.910-006557.html

You'll see that they have numerous models to choose from.
