Apple Numbers won't stop calculating

Stopping it:

Apple Menu > Force Quit... > Numbers may also work.

Finding the cause:

Lots of possible contributing factors, including these:

• • wide use of "volatile" functions (that recalculate with every change, e.g. OFFSET, INDIRECT, ROWS, NOW, RAND, RANDBETWEEN, and others)
  • large tables - Numbers usually can handle several thousand rows smoothly but unlike Excel is not designed to handle very large datasets
  • lots of apps besides Numbers open at the same time
  • aging Mac with insufficient memory

Hopefully your spreadsheet has been saved BEFORE it started calculating - in that case you could try to restart the device you are using.

Otherwise and for more specific tips you would need to provide more specific information if that is an option for you (e.g. What kind of calculation is it? Are your device and software updated? Has anything else happened that could have caused this glitch?)
