Virgin media wifi hub and airport extreme

Hi,

I currently have broadband from talktalk and use their wifi hub. I plug my airport extreme into this to 'create a wireless network' which then extends the wifi signal to a couple of airport expresses. I then use the expresses to connect via Ethernet to an xbox and TV. This set up works well.

I'm considering moving over to virgin media - would I be able to have the same set up?

Also, would the higher speeds of the new service ( a jump from 70 mbps to around 362) make the need for a wired connection to devices null and void? Or is the issue of poor speeds on TV more about their wifi receiver?

Sorry for the multiple questions.

thanks in advance!

Yes, but you will need reset and reprogram all of the Apple AirPort devices.

No, you will have to set up things the same way that you did before.

The good news is that the AirPort Extreme will be able to broadcast a Wi-Fi signal at up to 300 Mbps. The bad news is that the AirPort Express devices will be limited to a top speed of 100 Mbps, since they only have 100 Mbps Ethernet ports.

if I use one to create a wireless network, would I be able to use the other to receive that signal and connect it via Ethernet to the Xbox at a higher speed?

Yes, both AirPorts will work at the same speed....IF....they are connected using Ethernet, so the Xbox gets maximum speeds.

But, speeds at the Xbox will be half at best.....and more likely significantly less than half.....if you are thinking of connecting the "extending" AirPort to the "main" AirPort using only Wi-Fi.
