How can I return lost and found AirPods to its owner?

It looks brand new...it must have fallen out during a walk or run (residential neighborhood).

So it might not be able to be found, but let’s try this: Go to Find My, then tap on “Items”, then tap on “Identify Found Item”. Then your iPhone will search for nearby devices, if the AirPods don’t show up, they’re probably not in “Lost Mode” and therefore you won’t be able to find the owner.

Thank you. This was helpful information. I was not able to get it to recognize the one earbud because, as it turns out, it was not reported as lost. The person did not realize immediately that it had been lost. Nor did he know about using FindMy.

I left a note near where I found it and he saw that and contacted me. He not only lives in the neighborhood, he lives in my 32-unit building.
