Why is my HP printer showing as paused on Mac?

I encountered a problem where our HP LaserJet Pro printer stopped printing from our Macs that were running Sonoma 14.7.2. The error message in Print Center was something along the lines of "Printing paused".

I could print from our iPhones though.

It wasn't until I tried to print from a Mac running Sequoia 15.2 that I saw a more informative error message - Something along the lines of "Printer certificate expired."

I then went in to the HP printer's admin console (sometimes referred to as Embedded Web Server, or EWS), updated the self-signed certificate to have a later expiration date, and then I was able to print from all of the Macs.

I hope that helps anyone else that might be in the same situation!
