Accidentally removed Trash-Folder

Hi all,

I am working on a 2023 MacBook with OSX Sonoma 14.6. I must have accidentally removed the Trash-Folder since the icon in the Doc is gone and as well as in the Favourites-Sidebar where it used to appear.

I can still empty it via the corresponding command in the finder-dropdown-Menu, but I cannot access the trash-folder anymore. I also do not find it by using the system search.

Does anyone know how to fix this?

Help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

Anja

You did NOT remove the trash, because there is no way you could do so.

To make it easier to follow tbirdvet advice, here is how you quickly reach the file you need to delete:

In Finder, press Command-Shift-G and paste

  ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

Control-click on this file and choose Move to Trash; then restart, or perhaps easier, type the following line in Terminal

killall Dock
