I have a book length document, have created page numbers with different 1st page and different odd and even pages. The numbers appear, as I want them in the footer and to the outside margins, but the even numbers on the left are higher than the odd on the right. When I move either up or down the other moves in tandem.
Can anyone help, please?

Thanks. I finally found that the problem was a space (invisible) in my left page footer caused the right page number to be on the next line. I appreciate your response.

It sounds like the footer settings are different for odd and even pages. Make sure that all the footer settings are identical for both odd and even pages - spacings, distance from edge, gutters, etc. (can't remember all the Word settings cos I haven't used it for a long time)
Mirrored page numbers are on different line for right and left in Word 16.54.
