Impossible to choose the data format for a column of numbers (imported as a csv file).
I see in the older thread that others have been having this problem since at least 2011.
How has this not been remedied yet ?!?!?

If they are text and you are trying to change to a number format and it does not change/stick, the "numbers" in that column are not being seen as numbers. The most usual reason is that the numbers do not follow the regional format. For example, the "number" 1 234,56 will not be recognized where I am because the thousands separator is a space not a comma and the decimal separator is a comma not a dot. I need it to be 1,234.56
If that is the problem, you can briefly change the region for your document to one that uses the format of the numbers in that column. Format them as numbers. Then change the region back.
