How to adjust table transparency on iPad for highlighting cells below?

I know this is possible but when I try to follow directions that I can find on Google I do not see any opacity slider. I want to put one table over another table so that the highlight on the top table highlights the cells below it. Maybe this is impossible on the iPad but I cannot find any capacity slider to make this occur.
