iOS18 Bug: Hearing icon constantly being removed from my custom iPhone Control Center icon layout
I have customized my Control Center icon layout to include the Hearing icon, which is used to control MiFi hearing devices. It is incredibly useful to have this shortcut available in Control Center in order to quickly adjust my hearing device settings. Compared to the device manufacturer's apps, the Hearing controls have a better UI, they enable in a fraction of the time, and have less UI lag for adjustments.
That's why this is such an annoying and severe bug: I have on several occasions had the Hearing icon auto removed from the layout and have to re-add it. This has caused real world Accessibility problems. More than once, I've reached for my phone to perform an urgent hearing device adjustment and been unable to do so quickly because the shortcut has disappeared from Control Center.
One contributing factor may be that I frequently turn off Bluetooth on my iPhone. I know that the Hearing icon will not connect to my devices then and perhaps the iOS might be removing controls if they cannot connect.
However, the reason I turn Bluetooth off on my phone is that I also connect my hearing devices to my MacBook. Unless iPhone Bluetooth is off, it will prevent my hearing devices from connecting to my MacBook.
Regardless of the reason, I think it's a bug with Accessibility impact that the Hearing icon is ever automatically removed from a custom Control Center layout.
A few more details in case this report makes it to an engineer:
- Only the Hearing icon is removed. The rest of the custom Control Center remains the same.
- Once the Hearing icon disappears, it's gone regardless of the Bluetooth On/Off state.
