Unable to purchase online with IMac OS Sequoia 15.4.1 using Apple Pay

When trying to purchase online using iMac and ApplePay instead of being able to click on iPhone 15 to complete the transaction, a message appears on iPhone screen to hold the iPhone closer to the reader! The transaction then fails.

iPhone 15, iOS 18

Please follow this path,

iPhone > Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay > scroll down > Allow Payments on Mac > try switching off and on your iPhone and restarting both your Mac and your iPhone.

Wow, this. Is confusing. Here is why.

  • “When trying to purchase online using iMac and ApplePay…” - what do you see at this point on your iMac?
  • ”…instead of being able to click on iPhone 15 to complete the transaction” - no, the iPhone should have nothing to do with this process!
  • “…a message appears on iPhone screen to hold the iPhone closer to the reader!” Yes, this makes sense as the iPhone has absolutely no involvement in this transaction.
