Difficulty streaming with hearing aids on the go using iPhone

I have hearing aids that connect to my iphone for streaming. The connection works mostly as long as the phone is hanging from a very short lanyard from my neck. Anything else does not work, for instance holding in my hand while walking. Help? I really want to walk my 40 ft pool while streaming from ipad or iphone?
