MAC OS 26 Tahoe update prevents login with correct password u

On my M1 Mac, installation of Tahoe has resulted in blockage of my e-mail because my password is no longer accepted and any attempt to change the password (which I don't actually want to do) produces no response. On my M4 Mac, there is no problem.

I am having this same issue after updating now and I can’t risk wiping three weeks of legal work off my computer because it’s demanding my recovery key. The password I’m entering IS correct but now I have to purchase new equipment to get my 5000$ laptop to work or else I have to wipe all my data? Seems like another scam it’s infuriating!

I am having the same issue since installing Tahoe and I am at version 26.1, but I really do not want to change my password. I've been using this same password for awhile now and afraid if I change it, I won't be able to login to my other devices the way this is working out. I cannot download a needed app from the app store now on this computer due to this. You would think Apple would have a fix for this. This is bad IMO

There's nothing for Apple to fix. The 'fix' is to use a password, preferably a strong password.

Yes, I am logged in to the OS just fine. And I did check the keyboard settings and it's set to English. It's when I tried to get an app from the app store. Apparently, I tried to change my password for another apple email Id that is not my primary and it changed my primary account. That also is not a good thing as I specifically told it to change the password for the other id. Something is definitely wrong with their systems lately. I've been using Macs now for about 15 years and never had these kinds of issues until recently. But thank you so much for your help!!

I was able to get the app from the web and downloaded it that way. It's a VPN app and I need that to be able to work when I'm out of the country. :-)

Thank you for this. This worked for me. My temporary workaround was to hold down the power button for options, scan my hard drive using the disk utility repair function (which of course you have to enter the admin password to complete, and this took my password, no problem), then restarting from there, the login screen would take my password. Weird how that workaround worked.

I have a Macbook Pro M3 and I don't even have a password and it keeps asking me for my password so I can't do the latest update now to fix the bugs. Apple needs to fix this issue ASAP.

Same problem here on an M1 Mini, I have no password that it’s asking for.

I have a less than a year old magic keyboard. I’ll plug-in, but I don’t have a password. I’ve never had a password in the 20+ years I’ve used a Mac desktop.

ive done this and I still can’t log in properly. When I enter the Apple password it gets stuck in buffering.

Maybe a dumb question, but how do I do that? Any help would be great. I looked into the keyboard options in settings but didn't notice anything there. Thank you!

I had similar issue.

For last 5 years I've been using macbooks 2019 and never had any issue with entering my password, I have always used Turkish Q keyboard and same password for years. After installing Tahoe 26.1 today, my password did not accepted.

I tried multiple times - the system locked me out for 15 minutes. After that (luckily), I thought about maybe the keyboard settings turned into US- UK settings for some reason - and since my password has Turkish letter ''i'' in it, I remembered for turkish keyboard it would be dotless ı - and it worked!

I managed to log in only because I had prior experience with an English keyboard layout and guessed the key mapping difference. Many users may not be able to resolve this. Literally, I entered wrong password purposely and solved the issue - even though the top corner keyboard shows Turkish Q - the system thinks it is not because it is accepting ''ı'' instead of turkish placements of ''i''

I tried again, and unfortunately the problem is still exists, after the update the system still thinks I am using english keyboard. I reported this to Apple, they need to ensure that the login screen preserves and applies the user’s stored keyboard layout settings instead of defaulting to English.
