In the menu bar, in between the notification center (date) and the control center, what is the bluish dot? When I click it a larger version of that dot pops up in the upper right corner of the monitor. What is this?

That is Siri. You can disable it by going to System Settings > Control Center. Toggle setting to, "Don't show in menu bar"

Yesterday, that Siri button kept pinging non-stop and opening my Music app for no reason. I had to shutdown my computer and reboot to get it to stop.
I take it that it is supposed to only react if I say "hey siri" or something, right?
