What to do when 3rd party keyboards malfunction on my iPhone running iOS 26?

I'm having issues with my 3rd party keyboards. The issues are multiple. The worst one is that very often my keyboard is covering the send button in all my messaging apps. In order to "reveal" the send button I have to leave the app and re-enter. Another issue is that sometimes there is a huge gray space above the keyboard that hides all the contents of my chat. I tried multiple 3rd party keyboards. I reset my phone after the ios 26 update and updated to ios26.0.1.

I'm using a 3rd party keyboard because the original ios keyboard is unusable in my native language.

This is a huge deal breaker. I would have to switch to android if I can't resolve it.

Sounds like the 3rd party keyboards haven't been optimized for iOS 26 appropriately. Apple doesn't own these keyboards, so Apple can't fix them. Contact the App Developers of these non-Apple keyboards and ask them to fix them for iOS 26.

I apologise for sharing my opinion but according to your comment switching to android is the only option to fix this issue. Its been almost a month since I don't have a keyboard which is a very important feature for a phone. No app has been fixed yet and I don't understand how it is not apples fault but all the app developers

You are complaining about Apps NOT owned by Apple, which Apple can't do anything with. I merely suggested if you think going Android is the better option, that's fine and what you should do. Why you're here complaining about 3rd party Keyboard Apps, makes no sense. Apple can't change how their keyboards look or operate. Only they can change how their keyboards work. Have you complained to them?

Okay. You were right I was wrong. It is everyone else's fault, not apple's.

Believe what you want to believe. You've arrived at a very surprising conclusion for a supposed developer, however. The facts as follows:

  • Apple doesn't own 3rd party apps.
  • Apple cannot touch the code in an app they don't own.
  • If Apple did, they'd be sued (something surprising a developer wouldn't understand).
  • 3rd party app developers are given the API for all new updates, well in advance of the updates.
  • 3rd party app developers are responsible for their apps to ensure they work with the update and if they don't do their job, Apple can't fix the app.
  • Users can either stop using an app which isn't optimized correctly for the update, or reach out to the app developer to let them know there's an issue with their app.

It can't be said any simpler than that.

I’m having the same issue with my Bulgarian keyboard. The appearance of the letters have changed too. i was so used to the old keyboard probably for like a decade. do you know if there’s anyway to fix it?

There is no way for users to modify Apple's keyboards. If you want something different, you need to download it from the App Store.

To ask Apple to change their keyboard or add the old version as an option or to make their own keyboards customizable, you can use

The only two ways I found were to downgrade to ios 18, which I don't have the time for currently and another way is to switch to android which I'm seriously considering 😒

Even if you had the time to try to downgrade, downgrading has NEVER been supported on iPhone. If you think buying an Android makes the most sense for you, go for it. This is a user to user only forum and we don't care what you think is the better choice for yourself personally.

It's the developers' fault because they are the ones creating these keyboards you're having trouble with.

This just demonstrates you don't understand what Apple does as new iOS updates are being developed. ALL 3rd party App Developers are provide the Application Protocol Interface (API), well in advance of the release of updates. The app developers are then supposed to ensure their applications are updated appropriately to work with the new update when released. If the app developer didn't do their job, that's on them, NOT Apple. There is simply no way 3rd party app developers didn't have the time to update their apps to work with iOS 26.

I would think as a developer, you'd understand this? Clearly not.

Isn't providing them with the software effectively doing that? These developers then have the chance to see how their software works with the new OS. There is no indication that this was a planned deprecation on Apple's part. If developers don't test, that's on them.

I suspect that third-party keyboards aren't all that popular. I suspect most people use the built-in ones.
