Migration assistant hung on “looking for source”

Format HD. Install Sonoma. And when trying to restore from my usb time machine, it is stuck « looking for other sources »

my Time Machine backup was done eith Montery just prior to install sonoma.

i did restart imac and external Time Machine usb drive. No success. Any idea ??

iMac 21.5″, macOS 15.7

Your post does not make much sense the way it is written. Please write in detail the model year of the iMac and what you are attempting to achieve with it. Your post reads like you are attempting to use Migration Assistant on a 21.5" iMac (which would make it a 2020 or earlier) running 15.7.
