MacOS 26 Third Party Ethernet Support.

I have an Anker USB-C to Ethernet adapter with the ASIX AX88179 chipset. It has always worked with my MacBook Air and subsequently my MacBook Pro. Now that I have upgraded to MacOS 26 and now 26.1 that chipset seems to no longer be supported. I have tested the adapter to make sue it was functional and thanks to my employer I have one from Lenovo so I know it isn't my Mac.

I'm trying to figure out what gives Apple? You just cut the support? Also is there anyway I can update a driver for this adapter?

I resolved it. Apple wanted me to reload Tahoe and I did but that didn't do it. What did was actually simple and don't know why I didn't see it before. I deleted the service in settings and when I plugged the adapter back in it re-initialized and came up.

It worked before so they actively removed it.

It worked until you upgraded your OS according to your initial post. Most computer users check that all their third party drivers will continue to work before upgrading the OS. It is the responsibility of the third party manufacturer to develop and make available drivers for their product. It is not the responsibility of Apple or for example Microsoft to ensure their OSs work with third party hardware.

If at all possible, I would test this adapter in a Mac running a previous OS, and also on a different Mac running Tahoe.

It is possible that the adapter does not work in Tahoe, but this seems unlikely, and that is why testing on a different Mac could be illuminating. I have never seen an USB to Ethernet adapter ceasing to work because of an OS upgrade.

I'm not here to be chastised about this and in the almost 20 years I have used a Mac I have never had to install a third party driver. Also given that it work in the prior version of MacOS and that the chest in it is relatively current the question comes down to did Apple knowing or unknowingly removed it or if it is in there that it isn't working correctly.
