How to connect dual extended displays to MacBook Air (2025 M4)

New MacBook Air M4, need to be able to connect two additional 27 inch

monitors and EXTEND the display not mirror.

each new monitor comes with an HDMI cord would display port be better?

This if not for gaming but office work

( remote fraud and safety work with live streaming conferencing/communication and monitoring ).

What I envision is a compact(ish) unit that can be plugged in via one of the two USB C ports on the side of the MacBook Air and the monitors can each be plugged into the hub independently.

Having an Ethernet port and several incidental USB c ports wouldn't hurt.

Price isn't really an issue but dont need to over do it with excessive things i dont need.

What is the best option.

The monitors and brand new Dell S2725Qs that support display port 1.4 form what i can find.

Dell – Dell 27 Plus 4K Monitor - S2725QS

3840x2160 pixel resolution, 10-bit-per-channel color (1.07 billion colors).

Video inputs:
Two HDMI v2.1 ports
• One DisplayPort v1.4 port

While DisplayPort is the way to go, HDMI v2.1 is a good thing to see here. HDMI v2.0 has bandwidth limitations that mean that you can't have all of (4K resolution, 60 Hz, 10-bit-per-channel color, and RGB 4:4:4 encoding) at the same time. This usually means sacrificing 10-bit-per-channel color to preserve a 60 Hz refresh rate. HDMI v2.1 sounds like a minor revision but actually provides several times as much bandwidth as HDMI v2.0.

Standard and maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz (both for HDMI and for DisplayPort) – although it's unlikely that the Mac will support more than 60 Hz. The Dell 27 Plus 4K Monitor S2725QS User’s Guide indicates on pages 15 – 16 that at 3840x2160 resolution, those monitors can run at either 60 Hz or 120 Hz.

For clarity, Thunderbolt to display port is still best choice , not thunderbolt to HDMI, correct?
